I’ve studied tai chi chuan since 1996. I began as a student of Simmone Kuo at San Francisco State University, where I was later awarded my MFA in writing, taught in the Creative Writing program for 5 semesters, and assisted Master Kuo in her tai chi chuan classes since 2003, teaching hundreds of students in group and individual practice. I’ve also studied shao lin chuan’s tan tui, or 10 lines form, and tsa chuan, as well as shao lin’s chasing bat, or staff, and the internal martial art, xing yi chuan. In 2004 and 2007, I traveled to mainland China for several months to research the history of tai chi chuan and the 3 major Chinese philosophies, Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. I visited Shaolin Temple in Henan Province, the Confucian Temple in Beijing, and Lao Tzu’s Temple in Gansu Province. I climbed the holy mountain Tai Shan in Shandong Province. Having seen and learned so much I’m currently writing a book on my research and experiences.
